Update 30 iPads

These iOS updates, am I right?

I actually had 32 iPads to update (five were already updated, one won't turn on, one can't handle the Wi-Fi no matter what I do, and one was dead from not being plugged in).

30 (+) Brewfest Tokens

It's Brewfest again in Azeroth!

I was wondering how many trips with the ram I could make for the keg delivery daily, and I lost count while I was doing it. I looked up the typical maximum and it's about 17, which sounds about right. So instead of counting trips, we'll count tokens received. I probably got about 45 (15 trips) so we could say I made thirty one-way trips between Brewfest outside of Ironforge and Kharanos, or I made 30 tokens (then kept going). Either way works for me.

List 30 Examples for Costume Program

I'm doing a costume program with the public library in a few weeks, and I'm in the planning stage. Part of the program will be about how to come up with costume ideas that work for last-minute or minimum-effort costumes. One of the techniques is finding characters who wear "normal" clothes but are still distinct enough to be recognizable. Bonus points for doing a specific episode or reference (like Homer Simpson as Mr. Plow instead of just Homer Simpson). Another method is to see what you have in your own wardrobe and see what they match up with. I want to have lots of visual examples so that I can reach a wider audience with my examples, so today I made sure I had at least 30 ideas, which I will put in a slideshow so we can click through them.

Characters from:
The Simpsons
Bob's Burgers
Futurama
Adventure Time (may call for body paint)
Nintendo (Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Peach, Rosalina...)
Scooby-Doo (bonus points if you have a brown Great Dane with you)
Mad Max
Walking Dead
Pokemon (Ash, Misty, Brock, Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny...)
Archer
Star Trek uniforms
Daria

Individuals:
Ramona Flowers
Rosie the Riveter
Napoleon Dynamite
Lara Croft
Han Solo
Leeloo

General:
Pirate
Zombie
Celebrities you kinda look like
Memes

Disneybound (Disney character closet cosplay)

Puns:
Life, handing out lemons
Alice in chains
Ceiling fan
Holy cow
Hawaiian punch

Mashups:
Dumbledora the explorer
Taco Belle

30 People I Talked to Today

In order to work on my memory and also consider more closely the social interactions I have throughout the day, I reflected on my day and can name thirty people I talked to. (I excluded the 21 students in the class I taught because I don't remember them individually.)

Birk (of course)
Co-workers: MM, HF, BW, GL, SF, KD, DO, LK, JK, TP, PS, MGr, NS, BA, Amy, Shevin, Jackie, Christina.
Patrons: lady from the city, guy there for training, girl who needed print help, guy who talked about tattoos, girl who (separately) talked about tattoos, guy who needed guest Wi-Fi, girl with him, lady on the phone, guy who asked about the display.
Away from work: Melinda at Wawa, guy at Iggles.

That's 30 people! I know I talked to more people than that (for example, I know I gave out at least 4 guest Wi-Fi passes today, but I don't remember any of the actual people other than the two I listed) but these are the ones I remember and can conjure up.

Read 30 Pages

I was hoping to save this one for much later, and use it when I was starting to run out of ideas, but there you have it.

And to salt the wound, the thirty pages I read were of Catcher in the Rye. Yeesh.

Put Away 30 Dishes

I've been a terrible homemaker this week. Probably because I've been too busy dying on the couch. That's a slight exaggeration, but I've barely been able to leave the apartment, much less clean it. So I've had a dishwasher full of clean dishes for a couple days now, and the other dishes were starting to get impatient about getting in.

I put away 30 items out of the dishwasher, then took a photo of what was still left in the dishwasher:

Why? Well, I've already realized that some of these "30 things" are going to make 30 look like a huge number. (Wait until I try doing 30 push-ups, or running 30... name a distance.) But some of them, like this one, make 30 seem like a pretty small number. Granted, I did do silverware early, and that was at least a dozen items right there, but I really thought 30 items would be almost everything in the dishwasher. Maybe a few glasses or bowls would be left, but this load turned out to be 42 things. Neat!

Day off: 2/30

See yesterday's post; rinse and repeat. Today is day 2 off out of 30.

Tuesday, September 13, 2016

Day off: 1/30

I've built in a failsafe for this project: I get 30 days (throughout the whole year) of forgetting or not being able to do something. That works out to more than two per month, and I imagine when there's one, there will likely be more than one in a row or clustered close together.

I've been fighting a migraine and some pretty wicked associated symptoms for days, so today was the first day off out of 30.

Earn 30 Coke Points

I've gone back to collecting Coke product bottle caps so I can start accumulating My Coke Rewards points again. I figure, I'm still drinking it, I might as well get the points for it while I'm at it. So I grabbed a handful of caps (okay, ten of them) and put the codes in the website. Bam, 30 points.

Don't try taking the codes... I already entered them.
Duh.

30 Pictures of Gimli

This was a fun way to spend a day when I didn't feel well enough to be upright for longer than it takes to eat lunch. I was horizontal most of the day, on the bed, couch, and recliner, but Gimli spent a lot of that time with or near me.

Here are a few of my favorites from the thirty photos:

One of the last ones of the night. Hang in there Goober, only two or three more until we have 30!

Lookit that tiny tongue!

Yes, Netflix, I'm still watching The Office... Gimli isn't, but I am.

One of the first of the day

30 Hellos

Would you look at that, there's already a website with "hello" in 30 different languages for me:

Convenient!

Transfer 30 Raticates

I started early this morning. Instead of getting out of bed immediately, I checked Facebook, Instagram (apparently Star Trek is 50 years old now, according to the large number of cosplayers in various styles of "red shirt" that I follow), Reddit, etc. Sometimes I get lucky and a Tauros pops up nearby, so I opened Pokemon Go. Then I decided it was high time I finally cleared out some of the Raticates I got from using a lucky egg last weekend and evolving a bunch of my Rattatas. There were more than 30 of them... so I transferred 30 right then.

Put Away 30 Pieces of Laundry

This is probably the most responsible, adult-y 30 so far... folding/hanging/putting away laundry. But it was on the bed so it had to be put away (or shoved back into the basket to wrinkle some more) before I could get in bed.

And this was not the socks/underwear/tanks/leggings basket. This was the work clothes, t-shirts, and pants basket.

30-Minute Shower

It was kind of a rough day, starting off a rough-looking week, so I decided I needed a long, relaxing shower. Technically, I wasn't IN the shower for 30 minutes; it was a 30-minute process (from turning on the water to let it warm up, to getting dressed and brushing my hair).

Ahh, stress relief soap.

Braid with 30 cross-overs

I don't know if that's what they're called; I'm not a hairstylist. Obviously. There's probably a really cool term for each time you cross a strand over another strand when braiding. It's probably a totally unrelated word that has been repurposed in the world of braiding, like "train" or "mongoose." I don't know.

Anyway, I'm in a long-term food coma from my first trip to Popeye's, so this was an easy way to accomplish a "thing of 30" without getting out of the chair. And then I took this doofy picture of it:

Edit to add: I did a little Googling and it looks like the word I wanted is probably "half-cycles." I made a braid with 30 "half-cycles."

What I Did on the :30s

For day 1 (my 30th birthday) I made a list of what I did on the :30 of every hour that I was awake.

I posted the list to my Instagram, here.

6:30am: I woke up.

7:30am: Said goodbye to Gimli because I wasn't coming home that night.

8:30am: Driving into the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.

9:30am: Stopped at the rest area just before 295.

10:30am: Got my birthday text from Mom, about the same time I was born.

11:30am: Got onto 495.

12:30pm: While stopping for a drink and a snack at 7-11 with Beth, a guy hit on me in Spanish. (He asked me, "Baby tu habla espanol?" and when I said no, he asked, "ingles?" I wasn't going to lie, so I just went back to helping Beth look for a drink.)

1:30pm: Sitting in traffic in Beth's car on the way to Baltimore.

2:30pm: Standing in line for Tom King's autograph for Adam.

3:30pm: Shopping at Baltimore Comic-Con.

4:30pm: Still shopping at Baltimore Comic-Con.

5:30pm: Hearing a guy's pitch about a comic called Hero Cats of Stellar City.

6:30pm: Helping Beth carry her art after we opened her mystery package.

7:30pm: Taking a picture of the very pretty sunset while Beth drove back from Baltimore.

8:30pm: Watching "Primitive Technology" with Beth, Chris, Kit, and Cassy.

9:30pm: Eating a Domino's Cinnastick.

10:30pm: Going to bed on Beth & Chris's couch.
