I'm doing a costume program with the public library in a few weeks, and I'm in the planning stage. Part of the program will be about how to come up with costume ideas that work for last-minute or minimum-effort costumes. One of the techniques is finding characters who wear "normal" clothes but are still distinct enough to be recognizable. Bonus points for doing a specific episode or reference (like Homer Simpson as Mr. Plow instead of just Homer Simpson). Another method is to see what you have in your own wardrobe and see what they match up with. I want to have lots of visual examples so that I can reach a wider audience with my examples, so today I made sure I had at least 30 ideas, which I will put in a slideshow so we can click through them.
Characters from:
The Simpsons
Bob's Burgers
Futurama
Adventure Time (may call for body paint)
Nintendo (Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Peach, Rosalina...)
Scooby-Doo (bonus points if you have a brown Great Dane with you)
Mad Max
Walking Dead
Pokemon (Ash, Misty, Brock, Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny...)
Archer
Star Trek uniforms
Daria
Individuals:
Ramona Flowers
Rosie the Riveter
Napoleon Dynamite
Lara Croft
Han Solo
Leeloo
General:
Pirate
Zombie
Celebrities you kinda look like
Memes
Disneybound (Disney character closet cosplay)
Puns:
Life, handing out lemons
Alice in chains
Ceiling fan
Holy cow
Hawaiian punch

30 People I Talked to Today
In order to work on my memory and also consider more closely the social interactions I have throughout the day, I reflected on my day and can name thirty people I talked to. (I excluded the 21 students in the class I taught because I don't remember them individually.)
Birk (of course)
Co-workers: MM, HF, BW, GL, SF, KD, DO, LK, JK, TP, PS, MGr, NS, BA, Amy, Shevin, Jackie, Christina.
Patrons: lady from the city, guy there for training, girl who needed print help, guy who talked about tattoos, girl who (separately) talked about tattoos, guy who needed guest Wi-Fi, girl with him, lady on the phone, guy who asked about the display.
Away from work: Melinda at Wawa, guy at Iggles.
That's 30 people! I know I talked to more people than that (for example, I know I gave out at least 4 guest Wi-Fi passes today, but I don't remember any of the actual people other than the two I listed) but these are the ones I remember and can conjure up.

What I Did on the :30s
For day 1 (my 30th birthday) I made a list of what I did on the :30 of every hour that I was awake.
I posted the list to my Instagram, here.
6:30am: I woke up.
7:30am: Said goodbye to Gimli because I wasn't coming home that night.
8:30am: Driving into the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
9:30am: Stopped at the rest area just before 295.
10:30am: Got my birthday text from Mom, about the same time I was born.
11:30am: Got onto 495.
12:30pm: While stopping for a drink and a snack at 7-11 with Beth, a guy hit on me in Spanish. (He asked me, "Baby tu habla espanol?" and when I said no, he asked, "ingles?" I wasn't going to lie, so I just went back to helping Beth look for a drink.)
1:30pm: Sitting in traffic in Beth's car on the way to Baltimore.
2:30pm: Standing in line for Tom King's autograph for Adam.
3:30pm: Shopping at Baltimore Comic-Con.
4:30pm: Still shopping at Baltimore Comic-Con.
5:30pm: Hearing a guy's pitch about a comic called Hero Cats of Stellar City.
6:30pm: Helping Beth carry her art after we opened her mystery package.
7:30pm: Taking a picture of the very pretty sunset while Beth drove back from Baltimore.
8:30pm: Watching "Primitive Technology" with Beth, Chris, Kit, and Cassy.
9:30pm: Eating a Domino's Cinnastick.
10:30pm: Going to bed on Beth & Chris's couch.
